A noise with nothing else to go on is the hardest thing to identify over the phone, and the easiest to get wrong by guessing.
Noise on its own supports several answers, and they lead in completely different directions — including one where the correct action is to do nothing at all and take advice.
| What it sounds like | Usually |
|---|---|
| Heavy, confident, loudest during the day | Squirrel |
| Light scurrying after dark along a consistent line | Rat |
| Fast, faint scratching, higher up | Mouse |
| Fluttering and scratching near the eaves in spring | Nesting birds |
| Faint scrabbling or squeaking at dusk | Possibly bats — take advice |
| Tapping or ticking in warm timber, no pattern | Often the building itself |
£120 fixed cost. If it turns out to be something protected, you get told that and no control work happens — which is a considerably better outcome than finding out afterwards.
We stop relying on the sound and look for the physical evidence, inside and outside, because a noise on its own supports several very different answers.
Where what we find is protected, no control work happens and we tell you what does. The finding and the recommendation come to you in writing.
Our current price is £120 fixed cost. There is no call-out fee, and the figure is confirmed with you before anything is booked — never afterwards.
Our Pest Inspection & Survey cost guide explains what the price covers and what happens on the day, and every price we charge is published on the pest control price list.
Treating on the strength of a noise is guessing with an invoice attached. It also risks acting against a protected species, which is a considerably more serious outcome than a wasted visit.
